Woman feeling better after perimenopause treatment in Appleton WI
You Are Not Imagining This

You deserve answers, not to be dismissed.

You did everything right. You went to your doctor. You described the 3 AM wake-ups, the weight that came from nowhere, the anxiety that did not exist a year ago, the brain fog that makes you feel like a stranger in your own mind. The results came back normal.

Maybe they offered you an antidepressant. Maybe they suggested sleeping pills. Maybe they told you this is just part of getting older and you should manage your stress better.

You left that appointment more alone than when you walked in.

You are not imagining this. You are not "just stressed." And you absolutely do not have to live with it.

What you are experiencing has a name, a mechanism, and a solution. At Appleton Acupuncture & Wellness, we specialize in the complex hormonal and neurological transition of perimenopause. We find where the breakdown is. And we treat it.

Does This Sound Familiar?

Symptoms that no one is connecting to each other

These are not seven separate problems. They are seven symptoms of one underlying pattern.

Woman researching perimenopause treatment options

You cannot stay asleep

You fall asleep fine but wake at 2 or 3 AM with your mind racing and cannot get back to sleep. You are running on empty and no one can explain why.

Pounds are packing on

You have not changed what you eat or how you move. The pounds are packing on anyway, especially around your midsection, and nothing you try is making a dent.

Brain fog weighing you down

Losing words mid-sentence. Walking into rooms and forgetting why you went. Making mistakes you never would have made before. It is slowing you down and it is getting worse.

Anxiety from nowhere

You were never an anxious person. Now there is a low hum of dread you cannot explain, or sudden panic that has nothing to do with what is happening around you.

Hot flashes and night sweats

The heat comes without warning. It disrupts your sleep, your workday, your confidence. And it gets dismissed as a minor inconvenience.

Cycles that have changed

Heavier. Lighter. Shorter. Longer. Unpredictable. A body that no longer follows the rhythm it kept for decades.

You just do not feel like you

Your energy, your mood, your motivation, your sense of who you are. All of it feels different. You just do not feel like yourself, and you cannot fully explain it to anyone around you.

If you recognize yourself in any of this,
you are in the right place.

The Diagnostic Gap

Why conventional medicine misses perimenopause

Perimenopause is one of the most underdiagnosed transitions in women's health. The system is not built to catch it.

01

Standard labs are a snapshot, not a movie.

Estrogen and progesterone fluctuate hour to hour during perimenopause. A single blood draw captures one moment in a 30-day storm. You can look normal on the day of the test and be in significant dysregulation the rest of the month.

02

"Normal" does not mean optimal.

Lab reference ranges are population averages. They tell you whether you fall inside a broad band. They do not tell you whether your levels are right for your body. Most women with severe symptoms have labs that fall technically within range while they are falling apart functionally.

03

The system treats symptoms, not patterns.

You get a sleeping pill for insomnia. An SSRI for anxiety. A dietitian referral for the weight. No one is looking at how your nervous system, adrenals, thyroid, and sex hormones are part of the same conversation.

04

Appointments are too short.

The average primary care appointment is 7 to 12 minutes. That is enough time to run a panel and write a prescription. It is not enough time to build a treatment plan for a transition this complex.

Our Approach

Chinese medicine has understood this for thousands of years

Before anyone invented a pill for perimenopause, before HRT existed, before the pharmaceutical industry decided hormones were a deficiency to be replaced, there was a complete medical system that understood exactly what happens to a woman's body in her 40s. It mapped the patterns. It named the causes. It had treatments that worked.

That system is Chinese medicine. And it is not guessing.

Perimenopause is not a malfunction. It is a transition. The symptoms happen when that transition goes wrong, and Chinese medicine has been explaining exactly why for millennia.

Here is what it says in plain language: your body runs on a system of cooling and warming, of fluid and fire, of energy moving freely or getting stuck. In perimenopause, the cooling resources that kept everything balanced start to deplete. When the cooling system runs dry, heat rises. When heat rises without anything to regulate it, you get hot flashes, night sweats, a racing mind at 2 AM, irritability that comes from nowhere. When things get stuck, you get pain, mood swings, weight that will not move, cycles that become unpredictable.

None of that is weird. All of it makes physiological sense. And all of it can be addressed when you find the right pattern and treat the actual cause.

Dr. Kososki combines this ancient diagnostic wisdom with today's most advanced integrative holistic therapies. She is not choosing between traditional and functional medicine. She is using both, because your body deserves every tool that actually works.

We do not ask what symptoms you have. We ask why your body is producing them. That question changes everything.

Most women in perimenopause are stuck in a stress loop their body cannot break out of. Cortisol is running the show because the nervous system never got the signal that the emergency is over. No supplement stack fixes that. No hormone prescription addresses it. You have to go upstream. That is what we do.

How We Treat It

What our patients actually experience

Every patient gets a plan built around her specific pattern. Her symptoms. Her history. Her goals. Here is what that looks like in real life.

😴

Better sleep, faster

Most patients notice a meaningful shift in sleep quality within the first few sessions. Waking less, falling back asleep easier, waking up feeling more rested than they have in years.

🧘

Anxiety and mood stabilized

When we address what is actually driving the nervous system dysregulation, the anxiety and emotional volatility settle down. Not managed. Actually settled.

🌿

Targeted supplementation

Most women in perimenopause are taking twenty things that are not quite right for them. We identify exactly what your body needs and cut everything else. Supplements prescribed for your specific hormonal picture, not a general menopause protocol.

🔥

Hot flashes reduced or eliminated

Hot flashes are a nervous system response, not just a hormone one. When we address the underlying pattern, most patients see a significant reduction in frequency and intensity.

🧠

Mental clarity restored

Brain fog lifts when the inflammation and hormonal disruption driving it are addressed at the source. Sharper thinking, better word retrieval, improved focus. You start feeling like yourself again.

⚖️

Metabolism supported

We identify the metabolic roadblocks driving your weight resistance and give you a real strategy. Not a generic diet. A plan based on what your physiology is actually doing right now.

"

"I had gone the conventional route through my doctor and insurance, but I wasn't getting anywhere."

I still felt exhausted, wasn't sleeping well, and knew something was off. After I started working with Pam, my energy improved, I'm sleeping through the night, and I finally feel like myself again.

"

"I used to wake up drenched in sweat almost every night."

Now I might feel a little warm if I get up to use the bathroom, but I'm not soaking through everything anymore. I'm sleeping so much better, and that alone has changed everything.

"They wanted to put me on thyroid medication permanently. Pam has kept me off of them."

About Your Practitioner

Why I do this work

I have spent over a decade working with women whose health had been dismissed, minimized, or mismanaged by a system that was not built to understand them. The women who come to me are not fragile. They are intelligent, capable women who know their own bodies and have been told repeatedly that what they are experiencing is not real or not serious.

I became a licensed acupuncturist and functional wellness practitioner because every symptom has a cause, and every cause can be addressed. I trained extensively in Microcurrent Therapy, Electroacupuncture, Neuro-Immune Reset, and dry needling because standard acupuncture alone is not always enough for the complexity of what perimenopause does to a body.

My approach fills the gap between what conventional medicine offers and what you actually need.

Common Questions

What women ask before they come in

What is perimenopause, and how is it different from menopause?

Menopause is the point at which a woman has gone 12 consecutive months without a period. Perimenopause is the transition that comes before it, lasting 4 to 12 years. Most of the severe symptoms women associate with menopause happen during perimenopause, often starting in a woman's late 30s or early 40s, well before the periods stop.

My doctor says my labs are normal. Why do I still feel terrible?

Hormone panels capture one moment in time, and perimenopause hormones move constantly. A result that looks fine on the day of your blood draw may not reflect what your body is doing the rest of the month. Lab reference ranges are also population averages, not personal optimums. You can fall technically within range and still be functionally falling apart.

Can acupuncture really help with perimenopause symptoms?

Yes, and the evidence backs it. Precision acupuncture regulates the autonomic nervous system, which is the primary driver of most perimenopause symptoms. By shifting you out of chronic sympathetic activation, we reduce cortisol dominance, improve sleep, decrease hot flash frequency, and create the physiological environment in which hormones can stabilize.

What is Microcurrent Therapy and how does it help with perimenopause?

Microcurrent Therapy uses precise resonant frequencies to reduce cellular inflammation, support adrenal function, and improve communication between your brain and your endocrine system. Chronic low-grade inflammation and adrenal dysregulation are major drivers of fatigue, weight resistance, and mood instability during perimenopause.

Do I need a referral?

No. Appleton Acupuncture & Wellness is a direct-access specialty clinic. Call 920-460-8171 or book online to schedule your free 30-minute consultation.

How long does it take to see results?

Most patients report meaningful improvements in sleep, anxiety, and energy within the first three to four weeks of their plan. You will get a realistic, honest assessment of your timeline at your free consultation.

Do you work alongside my OB/GYN or primary care doctor?

Yes. We are not a replacement for your medical care. We fill the gap. Many of our patients continue to see their existing providers and find that our work addresses what conventional medicine cannot.

Do you accept insurance?

We are a cash-pay specialty clinic. We do not bill insurance directly. We provide a superbill on request for potential out-of-network reimbursement. We accept HSA and FSA payments.

What makes Appleton Acupuncture & Wellness different from other clinics in the Fox Valley?

Most Fox Valley clinics approach perimenopause through conventional medicine or standard HRT. Our approach is structurally different. We address the nervous system and cellular environment that governs your hormones, not just the hormone levels themselves. We use advanced modalities not available at standard clinics. And we take the time to understand your specific pattern.
